Some info about me….

Hello! My name is Melissa. I wish I could say that I’ve loved reading ever since I could remember, but that’s not exactly true. I had always found it a decent-enough activity, but far mediocre compared to playing with friends and watching TV.

That all changed though.

When I was 12 years old I had to get my tonsils removed. It’s a fairly normal procedure and the most exciting part of it was that I got to miss an entire week of school.

During that week long recovery, I was subjected to whatever was on TV at the time (as yes, this was before the age of Netflix) and to my excitement, ABC Family was having a Harry Potter weekend. Now, to remind you, ABC family was always having Harry Potter weekend so this wasn’t groundbreaking news.

But for some reason, during my week of recovery while stuck at home, I watched the Harry Potter marathon even though I had seen it before. And then I watched it again. And again. And again.

I don’t fully know why the movies struck me as so magical and amazing that time around. Perhaps it was the painkillers, or perhaps I was simply at a mental age old enough to appreciate the world J.K. Rowling had created for the first time.

Whatever the reason, like many others before me, I fell into the rabbit hole of wizards and magic and evil snake-men. Once my recovery was over, I returned to school.

To my complete and utter bewilderment I found myself walking into the library the first day back during a class, and there, sitting on the shelf was Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. It fully struck me, for the first time in my life, that I could read what happened to Harry next instead of waiting another year for the dumb movie to come out.

So that’s exactly what I did.

It took me five days to read that 800-page behemoth, immediately followed up by the others in the series. I’ve never looked back since.

I know it’s perhaps cliche to say that reading changed my life, but it did. It formed who I became as a person, my intelligence, my passion, my understanding of the world. It formed what I chose for a career, how I made friends, the different hobbies I picked up.

Reading and falling in love with books has irrevocably changed me, and I will be forever grateful. That being said, not every book I read is a whirlwind romance. More often than not, I have too many thoughts and feelings about books to contain.

Hence the birth of this blog.

I hope that you, like me, are here because you love to read. And I hope, more than anything, that my reviews can help you find the next great literary love that might change your life for the better.

Updates and Timing of New Reviews

When do I update or add new reviews?

Good question. The answer is: indeterminate.

I am always constantly reading something, but the rate at which I do so ranges greatly. I can finish a book in two days and write and publish a review that same night. I can also take four weeks to finish a book and another two-three days to write the review and upload it.

Unfortunately, as life is unpredictable and messy sometimes there are factors that get in the way of me updating on a regular schedule. These factors include a full-time job, health, socialization, adulting, and yes, believe it or not, other hobbies (video games, anime, manga, music, and my own original writing).

So I ask for you patience in the meantime and hope that one day I can have a consistent update schedule for book reviews.
